Whipple TBI Supercharger Kit (Pics)

Postby Dark Ember » Wed Apr 03, 2013 12:46 pm

I found this on craigslist and just could not let this pass me by. I have an 95' TBI 350 laying around that needs a home. This blower and that engine will one day find themselves in my S-10. These kits are getting rare, especially complete ones, and so I just couldn't let it pass me by. I've never owned a supercharger before and so I had to post this up, even though it isnt F-body related. Image

Sounds like it will be a fun S-10!

How much boost do those make?
If it breaks, make it stronger.
If it doesn't, try harder.

These kits are not actually all that powerful. It is only a 1.33L unit. Whipple said they would not go over 8psi in a stock tbi 350. The kits make 6psi stock. I need to send them another email and ask them for more details on it.

I sent whipple an email about this tbi kit, we will see what they say about it. I spoke to whipple on the phone though, and asked some more general questions about their blowers. With roots type blowers, its better to run as low static compression as possible, and add more boost. Today whipple told me that with their kits, its opposite. They want high compression ratios, and low boost. I did not expect that at all. I stinkin axed the CR on the monte so I could add loads of boost of a whipple. I kinda want to get a 2nd opinion on that.

Anyway though, back to this blower. I pulled these numbers from Whipples site:

http://www.whipplesuperchargers.com/con ... ?PageID=58

Near the bottom of this link is the kit pictured above.

--------------------HP-----RPM-----TQ----RPM
Stock 5.7 TBI....206 @ 4000-----294 @ 2800
Whipple----------312 @ 4500-----442 @ 2700

This was with 6psi, and I intend to run 8 with it. This will also be on an engine that should make close to 350hp naturally aspirated with 9.7:1 CR. So, as mentioned earlier, it should make for a very fun S-10.

Whipple got back to me, this kit is only good to around 425hp. Thats kinda sad, but I was only wanting to get about 450 out of the engine anyway. I have too many projects. Right now the Monte and tuning software for the bird are battling for the #1 spot, this whipple project is for later on down the road.

tuning software for the bird is free, just need a cable, ZIF socket, and burner. OR for ~$299 an emulator and you can tune real time!

Long shot but any chance you still have this kit and aren't using it and want to sell it? If so give me a call 256-490-0922. I have an 89 gmc 1500 I would love to put this on.
